Pupil Premium Funding
The government allocates Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding. It is intended to tackle disadvantage and is targeted to reaches the pupils who need it most. The funding is allocated to pupils from Reception to Year 11 who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), are looked after or have ever been or have parents currently in the Armed Forces. This funding is allocated for schools to raise the attainment of FSM students and close the gap in attainment between disadvantaged pupils and other students. Historically there is a gap in attainment between these groups of children.
The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011, and paid to local authorities by means of a specific grant based on the January school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for FSM in Reception to Year 11. For Looked After Children, the Pupil Premium was calculated using the Children Looked After data returns (SSDA903). From April 2012 the coverage of the Premium was widened to include those eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years.
It is important to recognise that the Pupil Premium funding is not the only income that we deploy to support groups of learners and to “narrow the gap”. The Governors, the Headteacher and staff of St Alban’s School provided a wide range of support to families and children, working closely in partnership to improve academic outcomes for all pupils.
We deploy the Pupil Premium Funding Grant to ensure that we are successful in narrowing the gap and raising achievement for all children from low income and or/other disadvantaged backgrounds.
